ELIZABETH CITY — Livingstone’s three-game winning streak was stopped at Elizabeth City State on Saturday afternoon.
A long ride and a hungry home team were a bad combination for the Blue Bears. The Vikings, who had two weeks to prepare for Livingstone’s visit, beat the Blue Bears 39-27. It was the first win for ECSU (1-4, 1-2).
It was 33-7 and 39-14, but Livingstone (3-2, 2-1) got two late TDs to make the final score look respectable.
ECSU quarterback Chris Perkins played like an All-American, throwing four touchdown passes and running 73 yards for another score. He completed 17 of 20 in a career performance.
Livingstone scored a first half touchdown when QB Elijah Alexander passed to Tavion Jackson for a 67-yard score. The Blue Bears weren’t in bad shape at halftime, trailing 13-7.
But then the Vikings, who had 197 rushing yards, scored the first 20 points of the second half.
Alexander had a scoring run and a TD pass to complete Livingstone’s scoring.
Livingstone was 3-for-11 on third downs, and that won’t win very often.
Livingstone plays at Fayetteville State next.
