CHINA GROVE — A Carson High School student was hospitalized in critical condition following an automobile crash that took place on school grounds Wednesday.
According to a press release from the China Grove Police Department, officers responded to the high school, located on Kress Venture Drive, around 11:25 a.m. They were called to assist EMS with an “unconscious person.”
The release indicated that during the investigation, it was reportedly revealed that a Chevrolet Tahoe had been involved in the crash, and one of the occupants, “who had been riding on the exterior of the vehicle,” sustained the serious injuries.
That individual was reportedly transported to Atrium Health Cabarrus (Northeast) in Concord and later transferred to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where they were listed as being in critical condition.
A statement from RSS Director of Marketing and Communications Michelle Shue said, “Rowan-Salisbury Schools and Jesse C. Carson are deeply saddened by (the) acccident that occurred in the school parking lot.”
Shue added, “The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. Our hearts are with the injured student, their family and the entire Carson high School community as we support them during this difficult time.”
The China Grove Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. More information will be released if it becomes available.
