INDIANAPOLIS — A.L. Brown girls basketball coach Kayla Crayton coached Team North Carolina in the first Special Olympics North America Women’s Unified 3X3 games.
The team reached the finals of the tournament and flew home with silver medals.
Team NC lost Wednesday night’s championship game to Jamaica by one point, but they made new friends in that game as well as in the games they won.
Crayton said it was a great championship game with 800 fans watching the girls do what they love. The Special Olympics sporting event was held in conjunction with a major conference for Special Olympics staffers that was being held in Indianapolis.
Nine teams played in the tournament, including Team NC. Teams came from southern California, Delaware and Michigan. There were two teams from Indiana, two from Canada and one from Jamaica.
