Citing an abundance of caution, Landis released a boil water advisory for town residents around 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
The notice, signed by Town Manager Michael Ambrose and released on line, states that Landis is issuing a “system pressure advisory due to low pressure and outages in the distribution system caused by flushing of waterlines.”
It goes on to say, “Periods of low to no pressure in the distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.”
As a result of those concerns, Landis has instructed residents to, upon pressure restoration, boil any water needed for human consumption, (i.e. drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) vigorously for at least one minute.
“This should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water,” the advisory states. “We ask that all citizens with town water are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible.”
The advisory reportedly remains in effect until written notification acknowledging its lifting is issued from the town.
