MONROE — Conference championship meets in indoor track aren’t standard procedure, as there are usually a limited number of athletes competing in winter track, but Union Academy Charter recently hosted the Yadkin Valley Conference Meet.
Union Academy’s girls won in a landslide with 152 points. South Stanly was second with 34. North Rowan was third with 30.
Ty’Tiana Clemons scored most of those North Rowan points by winning the long jump (16 feet, 8 inches) and the 55 meter hurdles (8.94 seconds).
The boys division was more competitive, but UAC still won with 107 points. North Stanly scored 76. North Rowan scored 42 to edge Albemarle (41) for third.
North’s Brenden Ellis won the triple jump (41-6).
North’s Myles Witherspoon was a double winner in the 55 meter hurdles (8.24) and the high jump (6 feet).
