SALISBURY — Catawba’s softball season finally got under way over the weekend.
The Indians lost 9-4 and 6-5 at Lander on Saturday.
Catawba (1-3) split at USC Aiken on Sunday, losing 7-2 and winning 6-5.
Maddy Altiers had a double to score the tie-breaking run against USC Aiken.
Altiers had two doubles and four RBIs for the Indians in the first four games.
Alexandra Baquie was credited with the first pitching win of the season.
Abbey Nixon (Carson), a transfer from Lenoir-Rhyne, started the first four games in left field. She was 2-f0r-12 with three runs, two steals and one RBI.
Catawba is scheduled to play for the first time at home on Thursday. Lees-McRae will take on the Indians in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
