KANNAPOLIS — South Rowan sophomore running back Jayden Arthur recently announced a transfer to A.l. Brown on social media.
Arthur (5-11, 196) got varsity action and had some good moments for South as a freshman.
Then he stood out in a number of camps over the summer, winning awards, earning invitations to bigger showcase events and making prospect lists for the Class of 2028.
Arthur’s sophomore season at South didn’t provide the breakout that some had anticipated, as Nic Woolf emerged as a workhorse back for the Raiders by turning in back-to-back 200-yard non-conference games. Woolf proved to be a solid runner and is third in Rowan County rushing with over 800 yards.
Arthur did not play in South’s regular-season finale against Carson or the playoff game at Bandys. He managed 450 rushing yards for the season on 83 carries. That’s 5.4 yards per carry. He scored two touchdowns.
Arthur’s most productive games were against some of the best teams South faced — 16 carries for 61 yards against Robinson; 11 for 56 against Concord, and 7 for 87 against Northwest Cabarrus. He had 121 yards on 21 carries in an early victory against Union Academy Charter.
Arthur also got some snaps on the defensive side of the ball and he’s considered a good receiver.
