Woman charged with first-degree arson after argument
On July 13 just after 6 a.m., first responders were called to a fire in a shop behind a house on St. Matthews Church Road. During the investigation, a man in the building said he and his girlfriend, Cindi Marie Adames-Givens, had been arguing and he woke up to realize she had set the futon mattress where they were sleeping on fire.
Firefighters and deputies noted that the fire had caused the ceiling to collapse in areas and the rolling garage door was melted and twisted to the side from the heat of the fire. A truck outside was also damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured and deputies obtained a warrant for Adames-Givens, who was charged Aug. 9 with first-degree arson.
